Parents are asked to bring their children directly to the classroom each day. It is very important that your child be “on time” for class. Late arrivals not only disrupt the class but your child will miss valuable teaching time.
Regular attendance is essential in order to achieve success in school. If your child is ill and unable to attend school, please call to notify us that day. If your child has had a fever within a 24 hour period, please keep him/her home. Upon returning to school, a written note by the parent/guardian is required. This note should include the following:
Please inform us if your child has a communicable disease so that we can notify other parents that their children may have been exposed. A doctor’s note is required when your child returns to school after such illnesses. It is the goal of Small World North to provide the children, staff and parents we serve with a healthy school environment. According to our Health Care Plan, Small World North is only able to care for well children. If your child is ill with a fever, please make sure he/she is fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Upon returning to school, a written note by the parent/guardian is required.
Small World North will not administer medication (prescription or over-the-counter medicines) at any time to any child. Small World North will administer over-the-counter topical “ointments” only with written parental consent on file.
Medical Form – Upon registration, each parent will receive a medical form. This form must be filled out by your child’s pediatrician and returned to Small World North by the first day of school. Small World North will not accept any child who has not had a new and complete physical exam. It is also mandatory that your child be up-to-date with his/her immunizations, which should be clearly listed on the medical form.
All children will have a daily snack of juice and crackers, pretzels, fruit, etc. Parents receive a monthly snack calendar, asking to contribute a snack once a month for their child’s class.
Children who attend school on a “full-time” basis must bring their own lunch with beverage to school each day. If you wish your child to have a warm lunch, please be sure to send his/her food in a thermos.
Small World North offers a gym/aerobics class for the children. Through music, dance, exercise and organized circle games, the children learn valuable lessons in following directions, taking turns and sharing as they further develop large muscle control.
If you would like to share your child’s birthday celebration with the class, please speak to your child’s teacher at least two weeks before the birthday to make classroom party arrangements.
We ask that no personal toys be brought to school from home. The classrooms are equipped with many toys, which we encourage the children to use. Toys brought from home can create problems in “sharing” and pieces are often lost. This leads to broken hearted children.
Whenever necessary, a parent-teacher conference can be arranged with your child’s teacher. At the end of the school year, the children in Pre-K are evaluated by their teachers. A progress report is completed and kept on file. Kindergarten students are assessed and receive written report cards twice a year. Children in 1st and 2nd grade receive a written report cards three times a year.
Individual and class photos of each child are taken by a professional photographer during the spring. All parents will be notified, in advance, of the dates the photographer will be here.
An evening of Open House is held in October. Parents are invited to visit their child’s classroom. It is a wonderful time to meet the teachers and see some of the special projects your child created.
Our Graduation and Moving-Up Exercises, complete with caps, gowns and diplomas, takes place the last two days of school in the month of June. The program is followed by refreshments for all. This is a happy as well as a sad day at Small World.
Lead Screening – Small World North also requires your child to have a lead blood screening test. A lead screening certificate is required upon completion with the results clearly written on the certificate.
Any child will be excluded from attending Small World North and referred to a health professional when the following symptoms occur:
IF YOUR CHILD HAS A SPECIAL HEALTH CARE NEED:
If your child is allergic to any foods or has asthma, please make sure that you inform your child’s teacher. If your child requires the use of an inhaler, nebulizer treatment or EpiPen, you will need a “Written Medication Consent Form,” filled out completely, from your health care provider for administration of the necessary treatment. Small World North will not administer any medication until complete, accurate and understandable written instructions have been given to the program. In addition to the Written Medication Consent form, we must receive the required medication in the original pharmacy labeled package, the pharmacy printout about the medication listing any side effects and any tools to administer the medication.
Parents are asked to drive carefully when entering and exiting the parking lot. Please be very cautious as well as “courteous” towards one another at all times. When bringing your child to school each day, you must escort him/her into the classroom. We ask that you hold your child’s hand while walking in the parking lot. It is against school policy to allow children to enter the building unattended by an adult.
Under no circumstances is a car to be left “idle” during drop off and pick up times. It is for safety reasons that all of the above regulations must be complied with. We appreciate your full cooperation in this matter.
In the event of snow/ice storms, listen to WFAS 12:30 A.M. and 103.9 F.M. on your radio. You may also watch Cable T.V. news Channel 12 or visit their website at www.news12.com for any possible announcements of school closings or delayed openings.
We require that each parent send in a complete set of old, wearable clothing for their child. This should include pants, shirt/top, socks and undergarments. The clothing should be placed in a plastic bag with your child’s name on it. This will remain in school in case of spills or accidents.
Tuition is due on the first day of each month. There is an additional charge for child care before 9:00 A.M. and after 3:00 P.M. All checks should be made payable to "Small World North." School tuition is based on an overall ten month fee. This is divided into ten equal payments, regardless of the number of days off each month.
In order to maintain the quality of our program and your child’s participation in it, the tuition payments must be made on time.
Tuition payments can be made by check, cash or money order. If a check is returned for insufficient funds, then a $25.00 returned check fee will be charged. Tuition that is not paid by the 10th of each month will mean your child must be kept home until payment has been made. In addition, a $50.00 late fee penalty will be added to your account for that month. This will be strictly enforced.
Any parent desiring to remove his/her child from Small World North during the school year is required to give one month’s notice in writing. Otherwise, payment is expected for that month. If your child is withdrawn from the program at any time during any month, tuition will not be refunded.
If your child is absent due to illness, personal vacations or inclement weather, payment is still required in full and on time. There are no refunds for days missed for any of these reasons.
Make-up days are not permitted for any days missed, for personal vacations, illness or school closings.
**Small world reserves the right to ask a parent to remove his/her child from the program when it is in the best interest of the child or the school.**
